$1.6 million filly Seychelles shines with breakthrough win

Seychelles, the $1.6 million sister to Group 1 winner Prowess who topped the 2024 New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale at Karaka, has broken her maiden at her fourth start at Pakenham.

The Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman-trained Proisir filly was resuming after two placings and a fourth in her first campaign. Ridden by Jordan Childs, Seychelles came from back in the field along the rail to surge into the clear and grab Ottolenghi in the shadows of the post.

“The race shape really helped us, she began nicely, I let the speed go and was able to get that cruisey run on the fence. Once I got her out, she really went through her gears and found the line,” Childs said.

Co-trainer Katherine Coleman said the stable had shown patience with Seychelles but this campaign, the penny had dropped with her. She is likely to be aimed toward black-type races in the autumn.

Seychelles is owned by John Camillieri’s Fairway Thoroughbreds.
