$10.5 million colt has a name
After selling for a staggering US$10.5 million at last week’s OBS Spring Sale, the Flightline colt out of Lucrezia has officially been named Zedan and has entered training with Hall of Fame conditioner Bob Baffert at Santa Anita Park.
The colt’s name carries personal significance for the ownership group. Zedan Racing Stables explained the choice, noting that Baffert selected the name following a meeting with Amr Zedan’s father, H.E. Dr. Fareed M. Zedan, during a recent visit to Saudi Arabia.
“The two hit it off wonderfully, and Bob selected the name ZEDAN as a kind gesture to honor our family,” the post read.
Baffert wasted little time praising his new charge. “He’s a specimen,” the trainer said from the Santa Anita press box last Sunday. “A man among boys really. And with his pedigree, you know why he cost so much.”
Zedan is from the first crop of unbeaten Horse of the Year Flightline and is out of the Into Mischief mare Lucrezia.
The colt rewrote the record books at OBS, eclipsing the previous top price of $3 million and ranking as the second-highest priced juvenile to sell at any 2-year-old sale.
