Winterbottom placegetter extends Perth trip to contest Gold Rush
Victorian sprinter Rey Magnerio will figure in a switch of plans and will remain in Perth to contest the $1.5 million Gold Rush.
Trainer Robbie Griffiths revised an itinerary for Rey Magnerio after a strong performance in the Winterbottom Stakes at the weekend.
The son of Magnus produced his second career Group 1 placing when closing late along the fence to complete an interstate finish in the Winterbottom behind Sydney sprinters Libertad and Overpass.
Griffiths reported that Rey Magnerio has thrived since arriving in Western Australia.
Although the Gold Rush was not initially on Rey Magnerio’s radar, Griffiths believes there is no better time to try his stable star over 1400m for the first time.
The Group 3 Gold Rush will be run at Ascot on December 13.
Rey Magnerio posted his first Group 1 placing when third to Jimmysstar in the Oakleigh Plate in February.
