Beiwacht on track for potential Dubai campaign
Top colt Beiwacht has taken a step closer to a possible Dubai appearance with a course proper barrier trial win at Randwick.
The Godolphin star, winner of the Group 1 Golden Rose during the spring in his first campaign for trainer Chris Waller, defeated Spring Lee and crack filly Apocalyptic.
He clocked 53.96 seconds under jockey Adam Hyeronimus in the fastest of two heats for Group and Listed horses.
Beiwacht is likely to target the prestigious Newmarket Handicap at Flemington second-up ahead of a potential trip to the Middle East for a support race during the Dubai World Cup meeting on March 28.
Group 1-winning stablemates Lady Shenandoah and Aeliana also contested the trial.
The second 900-metre heat was won by Marhoona, who finished ahead of the unbeaten Autumn Glow and Pericles in third.
In the 1000m heat, Just Feelin’ Lucky defeated Lindermann and Sir Delius.
