Jockey in hospital as Bathurst fall puts paid to meeting

Jockey Adrian Layt was hospitalised after a fall in the opening race at Bathurst forced the remainder of the NSW country meeting to be postponed.

Layt was dislodged on the home turn when his mount, the short-priced favourite Sharbino, became unbalanced, slipped and lost its footing.

The veteran rider told medical staff he was experiencing neck pain and was taken to Bathurst Base Hospital.

A delegation of senior jockeys joined Racing NSW stewards in a track inspection that subsequently found the racetrack unsafe for racing.
