Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale surpassed $21 million for the first time with a strong Book 2 session topped by a colt by Gingerbread Man who sold for $190,000.
Trading over the two days in the Swan Valley surpassed that of the record 2024 sale, with the sale average of $76,878 also a new mark.
It was a colt offered as part of the Yarradale Stud draft which highlighted day two. He was purchased by Peter and Luke Fernie after a spirited bidding battle.
He is a full brother to stakes placed Red Fifty Three, who has earned over $400,000.
Next best on Friday were a pair of colts by Zousain (sold to Yenrise Pty Ltd) and Playing God (sold to Morton Racing)) who both fetched $180,000.
The top-priced filly of the day was by first-season sire Lightsaber out of Reliable Dame. She was purchased by Millfields Park and Vern Brockman for $170,000.
“It was an outstanding day,” Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said. “It was a record sale for Book Two.”
“It was a very healthy average of $47,000 and a clearance rate that was exceptional around 85 per cent.”
“To be able to sell 16 horses for $100,000 or more was an outstanding effort. There was a great appetite for the quality horses here today.”
“The depth of the market right through the sale – in particular the local market, which picked up some 122 horses today.”
Bowditch said the local Western Australian industry was continuing to invest in improving the local product.
“So many here now investing in better broodmares and stallions are reaping the rewards and that’s been reflected here in the market” he said.
“It’s been a record sale. Well in excess of $21 million and we’re thrilled to be able to achieve that on behalf of the industry here in Western Australia.”
“We look to continue to build on these results and to see the breeding industry remain vibrant and successful,” Bowditch added.
