Ex-BRC chief executive appointed to senior casino role

Former Brisbane Racing Club boss Dave Whimpey has been named chief operating officer and interim chief executive officer of The Star Brisbane, subject to regulatory approval.

The appointment was announced by Star Entertainment Group as part of ongoing leadership changes following the opening of the Queen’s Wharf Brisbane integrated resort.

Whimpey brings more than 25 years’ experience in gaming, hospitality and tourism, including senior roles at Tabcorp and as chief executive of the BRC.

He most recently served at the helm of Surf Life Saving Queensland before taking up the interim leadership role at The Star Brisbane.

Whimpey said he was excited to join the business at a pivotal time as it focuses on revitalisation and rebuilding confidence in its Brisbane operations.

He spent five years at the BRC before resigning in 2019.
