Waikato Stud farewells Atishu’s dam Posy at 17
The No Excuse Needed mare produced a triple Group 1 winner and several valuable daughters during an influential broodmare career at the Matamata farm.
Waikato Stud has farewelled Posy, the dam of triple Group 1 winner Atishu, at 17 after a broodmare career that produced Group winners and strong sale results.
The stud said Posy was farewelled last week. Posy raced 13 times for two wins in Waikato Stud’s colours before joining its broodmare band.
Her third foal, Atishu, was bought by Go Racing for $260,000 from Waikato Stud’s draft at the 2019 New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Yearling Sale. The Savabeel filly won four races in New Zealand for Stephen Marsh before transferring to Chris Waller in Australia.
Atishu won six Group races, including the 2023 Group 1 Queen of the Turf Stakes and MacKinnon Stakes and the 2024 Group 1 Empire Rose Stakes at Flemington.
She retired with 11 wins and 17 placings from 51 starts, earning $5,926,820. After being entered for the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale, Atishu was bought by Yulong Investments for $2.7 million in 2025.
Posy also produced Group 3 Desert Gold Stakes winner Mazzolino and Flemington winner Dream All Day. Her second foal, Orchids, sold for $875,000 at Karaka in 2018 and later produced Listed winner Regeneration.
The mare leaves an unraced two-year-old Ardrossan filly at Waikato Stud, while Dream All Day was covered by Super Seth last season.
