Coolmore sets Magnitude’s introductory fee at US$70,000
Dubai World Cup winner Magnitude will stand his first season at Coolmore’s Ashford Stud in Kentucky for US$70,000 in 2027, while the farm’s other new recruit, the unbeaten dual Grade 2 winner Paladin, has been priced at US$20,000.
A four-year-old son of Not This Time, Magnitude won the US$12 million Dubai World Cup at Meydan and the Grade 1 Stephen Foster Stakes at Churchill Downs this year, racing for Winchell Thoroughbreds and trained by Steve Asmussen.
Coolmore secured his breeding rights in July. He was retired after being scratched from the Breeders’ Cup Classic on veterinary advice.
“To have Magnitude defeat both last year’s and this year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic winners—Forever Young and Sovereignty—proves what an absolute powerhouse he is,” said Charlie O’Connor, Ashford’s director of sales.
Paladin, a son of Gun Runner, brought US$1.9 million as a Saratoga yearling and retired unbeaten after three starts with Chad Brown as his trainer.
He won the Remsen Stakes and the Risen Star Stakes, defeating subsequent Kentucky Derby winner Golden Tempo; a condylar fracture without displacement affecting his right front ankle then ended his Triple Crown campaign.
Magnitude’s fee is well below that of his sire, Not This Time, who will stand for US$300,000 in 2027.
