The Melbourne Cup dream of Andrew Ramsden Stakes winner Basilinna is over with the Emma-Lee and David Browne-trained mare out for the rest of the spring.

It was confirmed on Wednesday that the five-year-old requires surgery to remove bone chips from her near fore fetlock.

Guaranteed a spot in the Melbourne Cup thanks to her Andrew Ramsden win, she had been allotted the limit weight of 51kg only on Tuesday, but is now ruled out.

An impressive winner of the Ramsden, she had finished seventh on her racetrack return last month.

There are now 119 horses left in the Melbourne Cup nominations.

It was confirmed on Tuesday that 2024 Caulfield Cup winner Duke De Sessa was also out for the spring.
