The Queensland racing industry is mourning the death of Beaudesert -based thoroughbred trainer Leanne Hartley who was tragically killed in an accident on Wednesday.
Emergency services responded to reports Hartley had been struck by an animal about 11.30am. She could not be revived and was declared deceased at the scene.
Queensland Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
Racing Queensland's acting chief executive Lachlan Murray said: “Our sincerest condolences are extended to Leanne’s family and friends, and our thoughts are with them during this tragic time.
“We expect every participant to be able to come home safe and sound and it is heart breaking that we have lost one of our own today.”
The Australian Trainers Association also paid tribute to Hartley.
Despite operating a small stable, Hartley was in the winners’ stall twice this year with Crackenthorpe breaking his maiden on the Sunshine Coast before winning a Class 1 at the same track two starts later.
“At this time, our thoughts are with Leanne’s family, friends, and those close to her. We extend our sincere condolences to them as they navigate this difficult period,” an ATA said.
“The racing community shares in their sorrow and offers support to those who mourn her loss.”
RQ will work with QRIC and the Australian Trainers’ Association to provide support for local participants who may be seeking immediate assistance via a support counsellor.
