The foal by champion sire Snitzel, was delivered in Black Caviar’s final days, with the mare suffering from laminitis.

However, he could not survive, the ownership group confirmed on Monday via a statement.

"The owners are saddened to advise that Black Caviar's foal, a colt sired by Snitzel, passed away last night," the statement said.

"He received around-the-clock, world-class veterinary care, but unfortunately could not be saved.

The statement offered thanks to the vet team at Scone Equine Hospital.

Run The Numbers – The Black Caviar edition – Unmatched perfection
The death of the legendary Black Caviar at the weekend made national headlines, just as the mare herself did during her remarkable racing career. This week’s Run The Numbers reflects on the unmatched perfection of the legendary sprinter.

"The ownership group would like to thank the entire veterinary team who dedicated their time and efforts to caring for Black Caviar and her colt,” it read.

"The ownership group would also like to acknowledge and thank the Australian public and the racing public globally for the many tributes to Black Caviar.”

"She was much loved and admired."

He was the ninth foal for the champion mare, who produced five fillies and two colts.
