The Tony and Calvin McEvoy stable is banking on a gear change to turn around the fortunes Alectrona who steps up to Stakes company at Caulfield.
Alectrona heads to the Listed Twilight Glow Stakes (1400m) on Saturday, a race that Calvin McEvoy concedes is 'aggressive placement' by the stable.
A maiden winner over 1400m on Bendigo Cup Day, Alectrona was then sent out a short-priced favourite when dead-heating with Mauricio for second place behind Flying Fizz in a benchmark 64 three-year-old fillies contest over 1400m at Sandown on November 22.
Alectrona again meets Flying Fizz in Saturday's race while Mauricio takes on 'the boys' when she heads to the Group 2 Sandown Guineas (1600m).
McEvoy said Alectrona would be fitted with blinkers for Saturday's contest after the stable was left disappointed the filly was unable to break through for a city win at Sandown last start.
"We were a little disappointed in her last run as they all finished together when she was a short-priced favourite," McEvoy said.
"Harry Coffey felt she just floated a little bit when she got to the front, hence the addition of blinkers on Saturday but I think that last run will prove a very good form race.
"It is aggressive placement, but her work has been very good leading into Saturday's race and we're confident she's going very well."
Besides the blinkers going on Alectrona, the filly has drawn barrier one and should be afforded a good run in the race in which she will again be ridden Coffey.
McEvoy said he would not mind a repeat of the last Caulfield meeting which favoured horses racing on the speed.
"If the track races like last time, it will suit her as she will be up on the speed," McEvoy said.
