Bootlegger the genuine article after Guineas win

Progressive three-year-old Bootlegger has delivered South Australian trainers Dan Clarken and Oopy MacGillivary with a stakes race success on Adelaide Cup day.

Bootlegger, a son of champion Darley shuttler Too Darn Hot, won the Listed Morphettville Guineas third-up for a spell in what was his third win in 10 starts.

A homebred for Robert Hill-Smith, who passed the horse in at the Inglis Premier sale as a yearling after he failed to reach his $150,000 reserve, the Emily Finnegan-ridden gelding has repaid his owners’ belief.

He was stepping up to 1600 metres for the first time and he relished the longer distance, outstaying his nearest rival Cannae to take his prize money to $176,000.

Bootlegger is Too Darn Hot’s 33rd stakes winner world wide and 15th conceived in the southern hemisphere.
