Group-winning French stayer Presage Nocturne is being prepared for a shot at the 2025 Melbourne Cup by his trainer Alessandro Botti.

Presage Nocturne, a son of Wootton Bassett, won the Prix De Barbeville in April and was then placed in the G1 Prix Vicomtesse Vigier, after which point Botti began looking at international options.

Botti confirmed to Paris Turf this week that Presage Nocturne will either compete in the Prix Kergolay or the Grand Prix de Deauville in August before heading to Newmarket to enter quarantine.

Among those to use the Prix Kergolay as a launching point for a Melbourne campaign have been subsequent Melbourne Cup winners Americain and Protectionist.

Presage Nocturne is from the penultimate French crop of Wootton Bassett before he was sold to Coolmore. His dam, Kyurem, is a half-sister to Simenon, who ran fourth in the 2013 Melbourne Cup for Willie Mullins.
