Bowman secures spot in International Jockeys’ Championship

Hugh Bowman secured the final berth in the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s International Jockeys’ Championship on Wednesday night after edging Luke Ferraris on a countback at Happy Valley.

Bowman clinched qualification with 21 second placings to Ferraris’ eight after the pair finished level on 15 wins.

He now joins a 12-strong international lineup that includes Zac Purton, Mickael Barzalona, James McDonald, Christophe Lemaire, Joao Moreira, Umberto Rispoli, Hollie Doyle, Rachel King, William Buick, Ryan Moore and Vincent Ho.

Bowman’s night featured two agonising nose defeats before he delivered a decisive victory aboard Allcash for Danny Shum in the Class 4 Kylesku Bridge Handicap.

That win assured his place in the lucrative IJC, with Bowman saying it was a privilege to return to the competition that he won in 2016.
