The most expensive yearling from the first crop of Newgate’s North Pacific, Angel Ladder, broke her maiden at Geelong to give his sire his third winner on Friday.
The Ciaron Maher-trained filly was having her third start for an ownership group led by the Rising Sun Syndicate and led all the way for Declan Bates over 1100 metres.
A $420,000 buy from the Inglis Classic Sale last year, she is a half-sister to Group winner The Novelist out of the Snitzel mare, Sunlit.

Angel Ladder’s first two starts had been in city class or stakes races at Flemington and she relished the drop=in class, edging out the well-bred Zoustar filly Odessa.
North Pacific, who stands for $11,000 this year, has one other winner in Australia and one in New Zealand to date from his first crop.
