Colic claims top SA sprinter Queman
Queman, a Group 1 winner who ranks among South Australia’s best sprinters in recent seasons, has died following complications from colic.
The seven-year-old, trained by Shane and Cassie Oxlade, will be best remembered for his 2024 Oakleigh Plate victory at Caulfield.
Bred and owned by Francis Smith and family, Queman accumulated more than $1 million in prize money with 10 wins, including three at stakes level, in a 26-start career.
His Oakleigh Plate success over Hypothetical and Mornington Glory under Harry Coffey, also presented the Oxlades with their first Group 1 triumph.
A son of Mint Lane, Queman returned from an extended break at the start of the 2025/2026 racing season to win the Behemoth Stakes at Morphettville.
He was last seen when midfield behind Giga Kick in the Group 2 Schillaci Stakes during the Caulfield Cup carnival.
