Coolmore pays €1.4 million for Minnie Hauk’s Justify half-sister at Goffs Orby

Coolmore’s MV Magnier paid €1.4 million (AU$2.27 million) for a Justify half-sister to Minnie Hauk at Goffs Orby on Monday, topping the opening session of Book 1.

The February-born filly, Lot 154, was bred by Ben Sangster and offered by Camas Park Stud. Magnier had bought Minnie Hauk from the same consignor at the sale three years ago for €1.85 million.

Minnie Hauk won last year’s Irish Oaks and was beaten a head by Daryz in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

The new purchase is out of Multilingual, a Dansili half-sister to Kingman. The filly is also a half-sister to Group 2 Summer Mile winner Tilsit and was the only Justify filly in this year’s Orby sale.

“The way Justify is going, we just have the utmost confidence in him,” Magnier told Goffs. He also pointed to Royal Lodge Stakes winner Haffner as a promising runner by the stallion.

Sangster was pleased with the filly’s destination. “She’s going to the right hotel in Ballydoyle as that’s been a key factor in making the family,” he said. “I couldn’t be happier with the price.”

Multilingual is in foal to Frankel and due to foal in February, Sangster said.

Of the 232 yearlings offered on Monday, 212 sold for a clearance rate of 91 per cent. Turnover climbed 15 per cent from last year’s opening session to €30,137,500, while the average rose 8 per cent to €142,159. The median held at €100,000.

Joseph O’Brien spent €750,000 on a Blue Point full-brother to his National Stakes winner Folsom Blues. George Scott and Billy Jackson-Stops paid €575,000 for a Frankel colt out of Laurens on behalf of Victorious Forever.
