Cressfield pays tribute to Our Egyptian Raine

Cressfield has announced the passing of foundation broodmare Our Egyptian Raine at the age of 27, marking the loss of one of the farm’s most influential early mares.

By Desert Sun out of Egyptian Queen, Our Egyptian Raine built a reputation as one of the toughest and most consistent racemares of her generation.

Her career highlight came with victory in the Group 1 Railway Handicap, while her durability at the elite level was underlined by nine Group 1 placings, including seconds, and two thirds across a racing career spanning 2000 to 2005.

Purchased by Cressfield for $900,000 as a broodmare prospect, she went on to produce 13 foals. Her best progeny was Egyptian Symbol, a dual Group 3 winner and earner of more than $1.4 million.

Retired from stud duties in 2020, Our Egyptian Raine spent her final years at Cressfield alongside fellow retirees.
