David Payne-trained 2YOs complete Canterbury double

Trainer David Payne completed a juvenile double at Canterbury on Wednesday when Russian Revolution filly Krasina backed up stablemate Persian Wonder’s earlier victory, with both winners ridden by Zac Lloyd.

Lloyd settled Krasina one-out and one-back before producing a perfectly timed run to score by more than a length in the 1200-metre maiden after placings at her previous three starts this preparation.

A $15,000 Inglis HTBA Yearling Sale purchase from Kingstar Farm, Krasina is by Russian Revolution and is a half-sister to this season’s Group 2-winning three-year-old Single Choice, while becoming the fourth winner from four foals to race out of stakes-winning Sebring mare Sebring Sally.

Sebring Sally has not produced a foal since Krasina but was covered by Artorius last spring, while Krasina became the sixth two-year-old winner this season for Russian Revolution, whose crop includes unbeaten New Zealand Group 1 winner Lara Antipova.

Earlier in the program, Persian Wonder continued a consistent start to his career, taking his earnings past $140,000.

Bred and sold by Cambridge Stud, Persian Wonder was purchased by Payne for $160,000 at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale and the son of Hello Youmzain measured up to black-type level in the autumn with a Group 3 Baillieu placing.
