Derby-winning jockey Adam Kirby launches training career in style

Adam Kirby, celebrated for his English Derby and multiple Group 1 victories in the saddle, has started his career as a trainer in the best possible way.

The former jockey, who retired in 2023 after nearly 2000 winners, saddled his first runner, Tuscan Point, to a comfortable victory at Southwell.

Kirby took out a licence to operate a stable near Newmarket, alongside the pre-training business he has established with his partner Megan Evans. Their clients include Godolphin and Richard Spencer.

During more than two decades in the saddle, Kirby’s biggest moments included his Derby victory on Adayar in 2021 for Charlie Appleby, and July Cup wins with the Clive Cox duo Lethal Force and Harry Angel.

“My first ride as a jockey was a winner, so hopefully this career can be very similar,” Kirby told Sky Sports after Tuscan Park saluted.
