A two-year-old colt by Kia Ora's Group 1-winning first season sire Captivant has displayed a glimpse of early talent by stylishly winning a barrier trial in New Zealand on Tuesday.

The Windsor Park Stud-bred Capital Express showed early speed to lead the 600m jump out at Waipa under jockey Jasmine Fawcett, stayed off the rail before pulling clear to win by four lengths in a time of 35.86 seconds.

The chestnut colt, who is the first named foal out of the winning Shamexpress mare Express Dreams, was a NZ$75,000 purchase by his trainer Paul Pertab at this year's New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Yearling Sale.

Capital Express, whose sire Capitivant won the 2021 Group 1 Champagne Stakes at Randwick, ran 0.32 seconds faster than Hello Youmzain juvenile filly Enchantment who won the other two-year-old heat at Waipa for trainers Mark Walker and Sam Bergerson.

Her stablemate Sword Of Stars, a filly by Cambridge Stud's first season sire Sword Of State, finished a head behind Enchantment.

Enchantment was a NZ$60,000 purchase by Victorian agent Sheamus Mills from the Haunui Farm draft.

A son of Capitalist, Captivant will stand his fourth season at Kia Ora at a fee of $19,800 (inc GST) while Kodiac shuttler Hello Youmzain, whose first crop are three-year-olds, will stand for a fee of NZ$30,000 (plus GST) at Cambridge Stud.
