A raceday treatment issue which saw two key runners from the Anthony and Sam Freedman stable scratched by Racing Victoria ahead of Saturday’s Caulfield meeting is now the subject of a stewards inquiry.

Moonhaven and Kira were withdrawn on the advice of the RV Compliance Assurance Team, who said they had been treated on raceday, which would be a breach of racing rules.
Co-trainer Sam Freedman, veterinarian Dr Tom Brennan and stable employees Alex Maher and Debra Cooke, spoke to stewards on Saturday with the inquiry adjourned for an as-yet-to-determined future date.
Freedman Racing took the unusual step of putting out a statement on social media.
“An oversight occurred within the stable for which we take full responsibility. We are committed to working openly and cooperatively with the Racing Victoria stewards as they conduct their inquiry,” it said.
“We take pride in our integrity and the strength of our systems, but any system in the world can fall victim to human error. Therefore, we will conduct an immediate and in-depth review to ensure that all processes continue to meet our stringent requirements and do everything possible to mitigate future risk.”
