Godolphin colts poised for Lightning return
The extraordinary depth belonging to Godolphin’s talent in Australia’s sprinting ranks will be on show for the second time in the space of a week, with two high-class three-year-olds set to contest the Lightning Stakes.
After star filly Tempted toyed with her rivals in the Eskimo Prince Stakes at Randwick, Godolphin will unleash Tentyris and Beiwacht in the Group 1 Lightning at Flemington on Saturday.
Tentyris, winner of the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes when last seen during the Melbourne spring, is a $2.50 favourite to make a successful return against older horses.
Beiwacht is also resuming as a spring Group 1 winner after taking out the Golden Rose at Rosehill.
Damian Lane replaces the injured Mark Zahra on the Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained Tentyris, while Ben Melham rides Beiwacht for Chris Waller.
Ten nominations, including proven Group 1 sprinter Giga Kick, have been received for the Lightning, with entries extended until Tuesday.
