UK trainer Charlie Appleby has shied away from lodging a Caulfield Cup entry for Godolphin globetrotter Rebel’s Romance.
Late nominations for the Caulfield Cup closed at midday on Tuesday, and despite speculation Rebel’s Romance was being considered for the $5 million race, there were no further entries.
Rebel’s Romance struck for the eighth time at Group 1 level with his victory in the Grosser Preis von Berlin in Germany at the weekend, prompting Appleby to consider his options for the well-travelled seven-year-old.
“Trainer Charlie Appleby considered a late entry for Rebel's Romance, but has elected not to proceed with it,” Racing Victoria posted on X.
The Caulfield Cup entry stands at 146 horses, with the Melbourne Racing Club receiving 12 overseas nominations.
