Reliable Man, Chris Waller’s Group 1-winning import and Group 1-producing Westbury Stud stallion, has died aged 18.

Reports of the death of the son of Dalakhani came out of Europe on Thursday, with his breeder Carina Klingberg Hanson confirming he had died after complications from surgery to remove melanomas.

A winner of the Prix Du Jockey Club, Reliable Man had two starts in Australia, winning the 2013 Queen Elizabeth Stakes by two and a half lengths ahead of Dundeel and Happy Trails.

He was retired after breaking down in that race and would spend several seasons shutting between Europe and New Zealand.
