Group 1 winner Wyndspelle dies in a freak paddock accident

Wyndspelle, the Group 1‑winning son of Iffraaj, has died suddenly at Victoria’s Wyndholm Park Stud following a freak accident.

The stallion sustained fatal injuries after taking fright from a kangaroo, Wyndholm Park’s Kim McKellar confirmed.

Wyndspelle had been gaining traction as a young sire at Wyndholm Park after beginning his stud career in New Zealand at Grangewilliam before relocating to Cornwall Park Stud in Victoria.

On the track, he placed second in the Group 1 Sistema Diamond Stakes at two and secured Group 2 victories in the Waikato Guineas and the James & Annie Sarten Memorial Stakes at three.

He later finished runner‑up in the Group 1 Thorndon Mile before claiming his signature win in the Group 1 Captain Cook Stakes. His record also included two seconds behind champion Melody Belle in the Group 1 Haunui Classic and Group 1 Tarzino Trophy.

“He was a gentleman of a horse, and the racegoers loved him,” Wyndspelle’s owner Jen Campin said. “He was tough, sound, and had heart. His loss for me is profound.”
