International insurance giant Howden will be the naming rights holder of the Victoria Racing Club's prestigious Victoria Derby day for at least the next three years.

Howden, which has expanded its presence in Australia over the past 18 months through the acquisition of HQ Insurance and Silks Insurance, is just the fourth major partner of the opening day of the four-day Flemington spring carnival.

VRC chief executive Kylie Rogers was delighted to have Howden on board for this year’s Melbourne Cup carnival, which starts on November 1.

“Howden has been an important member of the VRC family since 2023, and we’re extremely proud to see a business that so closely shares our values become a major partner of the club,” Rogers said.

“Howden has a deep passion for racing, with a long history of offering specialist insurance solutions for associations, racecourses, racehorse trainers, stud farms, riding schools and horse owners, and of course the VRC itself, so this is a sponsorship based on real partnership."

Australian winemaker Penfolds had been the naming rights sponsor for Derby day for the previous four years.
