Trainers Peter and Will Hulbert have been fined $5000 and received a 12-month suspended sentence after an Eagle Farm winner tested above the permitted level for cobalt.

Imported stayer Dillian won a 2400 metre benchmark race on April 26 as an odds-on favourite but a sample collected post-race was found to contain cobalt at a level above the permitted threshold as defined in the Australian Rules of Racing.

The pair pleaded guilty to the charge, with stewards taking into account their previously unblemished record in determining the penalty.

Their 12-month ban was fully suspended for two years, providing they do not record another cobalt offence, while a $5000 fine was levied.

Dillian had the race stripped from him along with the $48,800 in prize money, with Galifianakis promoted to victory.

Significantly, it also means that Emily Lang, who rode Galifianakis, is now back within one of the lead in the Brisbane metro jockeys premiership, trailing Angela Jones.
