Angela Jones has created a piece of Queensland racing history in claiming the Brisbane jockeys’ premiership.
Jones is the first female rider to win the title as the race for honours went down to the final metropolitan fixture of the season.
She went into the Doomben meeting with a two-win lead over apprentice Emily Lang to set up a historic showdown on Wednesday.
The 24-year-old established a buffer on Lang after winning on the Ciaron Maher-trained Space Age last Saturday.
Winning the premiership continued a breakout season for Jones with nine black-type wins, including a Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes victory on Floozie.
Both jockeys came close to riding winners at Doomben before Jones had the premiership wrapped up by the seventh of nine races, finishing the season with a 66-64 advantage.
