Jones promoted to senior RQ role

Racing Queensland has appointed Mitch Jones as its new Executive General Manager of Marketing and Communications, promoting the long-serving executive following the departure of Richard Goodbody.

Jones officially commenced in the role on January 5, taking responsibility for the organisation’s marketing and communications portfolio, including major events, brand management and content strategy.

He steps into the position after five years as Racing Queensland’s General Manager of Marketing and Events.

The appointment follows the resignation of former Executive General Manager Customer and Corporate Affairs Goodbody, who has recently taken up the role of Chief Executive Officer at Harness Racing Australia.

During his tenure at Racing Queensland, Jones has played a central role in the growth of the state’s major racing carnivals and the rollout of several new initiatives.

“First and foremost, I have a longstanding passion for the racing industry, through both ownership and administration, and I am incredibly excited to continue in this new role,” Jones said.

“I’ve built strong working relationships with our clubs and participants, and I’m excited to continue driving innovation and growth for both the organisation and the wider industry.”

Jones said the timing of the appointment was significant as the industry moves forward following the Queensland Racing Review.

“It’s an exciting time for the industry, and I look forward to leading the implementation of a number of its recommendations throughout 2026,” he said.

Racing Queensland Acting Chief Executive Officer Lachlan Murray welcomed the appointment, praising Jones’ track record.

“In Mitch’s five years at RQ, he has overseen the end-to-end marketing and event strategy across all three racing codes,” Murray said.

“His passion for the industry and strong stakeholder relationships will hold him in great stead in this role.”
