Kembla Classic to headline expanded Autumn Carnival
The $250,000 Group 3 Kembla Grange Classic will headline the launch of an expanded seven‑meeting Autumn Carnival at Kembla Grange Racecourse, beginning with a twilight fixture on Friday March 13.
Run over 1600 metres for three‑year‑old fillies, the Kembla Classic has built a strong reputation as a pathway to elite success. Past contenders include Hot Danish, Allez Wonder, Appearance and Single Gaze, while 2025 runner You Wangh cwent on for a Group 1 victory in the Queensland Oaks.
Illawarra Turf Club Chairman Mark Sleigh said the enhanced carnival reflects the venue’s growing profile.
“The Kembla Classic has become one of the premier autumn features outside Sydney, and we’re proud to build an expanded carnival around it,” Sleigh said.
The opening meeting will also see Melbourne Cup‑winning jockey Wayne Harris inducted as a Legend of the Illawarra Turf Club, while long‑serving director Barry Vandenbergh will be honoured with the naming of the 2400m Kembla Grange Stayers Cup.
