McEvoy injury to keep him sidelined for a month
Jockey Kerrin McEvoy is expected to miss at least a month of riding after breaking his left foot at the Randwick trials.
McEvoy, one of Australia’s most accomplished riders, was caught up in the barriers when riding the Chris Waller-trained Lazzura and was immediately stood down from riding.
X-ray results revealed McEvoy has two broken bones in his foot, which will cost him several rides at Saturday’s Magic Millions raceday on the Gold Coast.
The injury will keep McEvoy out of the saddle for three to four weeks, but he should be right to return as the autumn carnival picks up in later February and March.
McEvoy, who has ridden 85 Group 1 winners in a distinguished career, had three rides on the Gold Coast on Saturday, including Dance To The Boom in the Magic Millions Fillies and Mares and Mayfair in the Magic Millions Cup.
