Father-and-son Ballarat trainers Tony and Calvin McEvoy will open a Flemington stable to complement their main country Victoria base.

The Group 1-winning trainers will move into the Flemington stable complex previously occupied by Chris Waller.

It was announced this week that Waller would move into Carbine Lodge at Flemington, the boxes used by Godolphin since it purchased the Ingham’s Woodlands breeding and racing empire in 2008, thus vacating his long-term home at the Victoria Racing Club.

The McEvoys said the opening of a Flemington stable was not an expansion of their training business, but rather a “strategic restructure”.

“Flemington will perfectly complement our main base at Ballarat where we enjoy a relaxed country setting with hill gallops and a state-of-the-art undercover woodchip track,” the McEvoys said in a statement.

“By combining these features with a metropolitan base at Flemington, we’re adding valuable variety to our horses’ routines - a factor we believe is key to stimulating their development and increasing the longevity of their preparations.”

The McEvoys last trained from Flemington in early 2021.
