The ATC released a statement to members on Tuesday evening, thanking McGauran for his service after he opted not to continue in his government-appointed director position to the end of his term.

“Mr McGauran yesterday informed the Board of his resignation as an ATC Director, ahead of the expiration of his term in January 2026,” it read.

“Mr McGauran had served on the Board since February 2022, including a three-year period as Chairman.”

McGauran resigned as chairman earlier this month, having been the driving force behind an ultimately unsuccessful $5 billion proposal to sell Rosehill racecourse.

Tim Hale was subsequently elected as chairman, with Caroline Searcy as vice-chair.

“Mr Hale thanked Mr McGauran for his passion for the Club, and his leadership in helping to improve the ATC’s financial position and structure,” the statement read.

“The process and timing for a replacement Independent Director will be determined by the Minister for Racing in due course.”
