Sydney trainer Michael Freedman will open a satellite operation on the Gold Coast, prompting a career change for his Hall of Fame brother Lee.

Michael will take over the stables that Lee has trained from since 2021 in a move that he hopes will receive Racing Queensland approval in time for the start of the new racing season.

Lee, 68, is expected to assume a role as stable manager for his brother.

Michael says the timing is right for expansion because it will allow him to target Brisbane races throughout the season.

The move will also help solve a stabling issue that invariably arises during the Brisbane winter and Magic Millions carnivals.
