The Melbourne Racing Club has received 16 nominations for the Memsie Stakes, the weight-for-age sprint that signals the arrival of Group 1 racing in Victoria for the 2025/2026 season.

When entries closed on Monday, heavyweights of Australian racing such as 2023 winner Mr Brightside, Fangirl, Antino and last season’s benchmark three-year-old Treasurethe Moment were nominated to start their spring campaigns at Caulfield on Saturday.

Adding to a star-studded list is last-start PB Lawrence Stakes winner Private Eye, the Ciaron Maher-trained Another Wil, recent Anthony and Sam Freedman stable addition Tom Kitten and defending champion Pinstriped.

The Memsie, run over 1400m, has also attracted several stayers who will be aimed towards the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups.

Last year’s Melbourne Cup winner Knight’s Choice, Godolphin’s highly rated mare Zardozi, 2024 Caulfield Cup runner-up Buckeroo and OTI Racing’s up-and-coming stayer Deakin have been nominated.
