Lachlan Murray’s tenure as interim chief executive officer of Racing Queensland has been extended by 12 months, with the state government overriding a Racing Act provision which limits someone acting in the position for longer than three months.

Murray assumed the role after Jason Scott first gave his six-month notice of departure in January and was then seconded to other duties in mid-February.
Under the Queensland Racing Act, the RQ Board may appoint an acting CEO for “a period of not more than three months” and may not appoint any person for more than three months in a year.
That would mean that Murray’s acting tenure expired in the middle of May and RQ would be required to fill the role again from elsewhere. But the government has stepped in to extend his term.
