Napoleonic gets 10,000 shot

Napoleonic has earned a start in this Saturday’s Group 1 Doomben 10,000, with the talented three-year-old now presented an unexpected shot at sprinting glory.

Initially stranded as second emergency, Napoleonic gained a run after Abounding was scratched on veterinary advice. The earlier withdrawal of Lady Of Camelot ruled out after a stingray incident earlier in the week, had already thinned the numbers.

The field was reduced again on Thursday with the scratching of crowd favourite Private Eye because of the wet track conditions in Brisbane, as well as three-year-old Devil Night, continuing a pattern of attrition ahead of the $1 million feature.

Napoleonic will be ridden by James McDonald for trainer Tom Charlton, who is unfazed by the prospect of rain-affected ground at Doomben.

“I think it will suit him,” Charlton told Giddy Up with Gareth Hall on Thursday.

By Wootton Bassett, Napoleonic is rated as a $7.50 chance.
