All unraced horses in Queensland will be required to compete in an official trial before they are permitted to race at a TAB meeting from the start of the 2025/26 season.

Local Rule LR33(2) has been changed by Racing Queensland and will come into force from August 1. All horses intending to debut in a TAB meeting will now have needed to have trialled to the satisfaction of the Stewards.

The current rule only applies this condition to horses debuting in metropolitan races.

Racing Queensland has committed to increasing the number of trials in southeast Queensland and Darling Downs regions, while it will routinely program trials for after the conclusion of TAB race meetings in Capricornia, Leichhardt and Far North regions.

The trial change was first communicated in May.
