Newly formed Racing NT looking for founding directors

The Northern Territory government is calling for board applications for Racing NT, the new race controlling body for thoroughbred racing in the Northern Territory which is set to commence operations in late 2026.

Five director positions for the new board are available with the NT Government is calling for suitably qualified candidates to apply by April 10.

It is planned that applications will be assessed by an independent panel approved by the Minister for Racing and consisting of Valerie Smith (CEO Department of Tourism and Hospitality), Kelly Ralston (Deputy CEO Department of Trade, Business and Asian Relations) and Dale Monteith.

The intention is for Racing NT to operate independently of the NT racing industry with support from the NT Racing Advisory Council (NTRAC).

NTRAC will advise the Racing NT Board on matters concerning racing, facilitate consultation between the Board and racing participants, and consider any matters referred to it by the Board.

NTRAC will consist of two members of the Racing NT Board (one of which will be appointed Chair) and at least three members who are nominees of organisations or persons who are representative of the racing industry including the race clubs, owners, trainers and jockeys.
