A NSW country-based trainer has been disqualified for eight months after one of his horses tested above the legal threshold for cobalt.

Stephen Dixon, who trains out of Tamworth in northern NSW, faced a Racing NSW inquiry on Monday.

It was established during the hearing that Dixon had routinely included in the feed of the racehorse Huka Falls a registered mineral supplement that contains cobalt.

The inquiry was also told that Dixon was feeding the supplement in excess of the manufacturer’s recommendation.

Huka Falls was the subject of a pre-race test before finishing unplaced at Armidale on February 27.

Dixon pleaded guilty with his disqualification to end on March 21, 2026.
