OBS March Sale closes with million‑dollar Yaupon colt

A colt by Yaupon brought a $US1 million final bid to top the third and final session of the OBS March 2‑Year‑Olds in Training Sale, helping the three‑day auction finish with a record gross.

Through three sessions, OBS reported its highest‑ever cumulative figures, with increased average and median prices compared to the previous year’s March sale, underlining continued strength in the juvenile market.

The Yaupon colt was among a record‑equalling seven juveniles to surpass the seven‑figure mark during the sale, reflecting sustained demand among buyers despite broader market volatility.

Earlier in the week, a Nyquist filly led the second session with a $2 million sale price to Boyd Racing, as elite pedigrees continued to command premium valuations.

Over three sessions, 439 horses sold for a gross of $71,815,500, eclipsing the mark of $71,473,500 set when 464 horses sold in 2023. The average of $163,589 increased 7.4 per cent on 2025 figures, while the median was up 7.1 per cent to $85,000.

From a catalogue of 816, a total of 566 horses went through the ring with 127 failing to meet their reserves.
