Port Augusta trainer charged after alleged Melbourne Cup day treatment
Racing Victoria stewards have issued three charges against trainer Waylon Hornhardt following an investigation into the late scratchings of Sassy Angel and Mr Trafficanti at the Mildura meeting on Melbourne Cup day last year.
Both horses were ordered to be scratched by stewards on race day, with an inquiry opened and adjourned at the time.
The first two charges allege Hornhardt breached Australian Rule of Racing 249(1)(a) by administering medication to Sassy Angel and Mr Trafficanti on race day without stewards’ permission.
Stewards allege Port Augusta trainer Hornhardt administered Ulcerguard, Omeprazole and Betcyl Electrolyte via oral paste to Sassy Angel and to Mr Trafficanti before they were engaged to run in their respective races.
The third charge alleges a breach of AR 232(i), which prohibits the provision of false or misleading evidence during an investigation or inquiry.
The charges against Hornhardt will be heard before the Victorian Racing Tribunal on a date to be fixed.
