The door remains open for Post Impressionist to back up in this Saturday's Tancred Stakes after William Haggas on Monday nominated the classy stayer for the $1.5 million Group 1.
The son of Teofilo dominates Sydney Cup betting after his stunning last-to-first win in the Group 3 Manion Cup (2400m) at Rosehill last Saturday.
Post Impressionist now carries the famous navy and white colours of the Williams family and Nick Williams said the ease of Saturday's win 3-1/2-length win forced them to consider the Tancred Stakes.
"It's got me wondering whether he should be running next Saturday, to be honest with you," Williams said shortly after the Manion Cup win.
"I'm sure he (Haggas) and dad (Lloyd) will be discussing that over the coming days.
"We'll see how the horse pulls up. He's done that pretty easily today, it was a pretty soft win, so let's wait and see."
The Manion Cup was Post Impressionist's first start since winning over 2816m at Haydock on September 9, one of four wins from 14 starts for the five-year-old.
Along with being a commanding favourite for the Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) on April 20, Post Impressionist now also owns a spot on the $15 second line in Melbourne Cup betting.
He is one of 18 entries for the Tancred Stakes with Ashrun, Buckaroo and Military Mission also nominated along with three-year-old Harry Angel colt Tom Kitten, who finished sixth in last Saturday's Group 1 Rosehill Guineas.
