Post Impressionist Warrnambool bound after Digital sale
Victorian owner Shane Morrissy has set his sights on next year’s Warrnambool Cup after securing Post Impressionist for $225,000, topping Inglis Digital’s November (Late) Sale.
Morrissy moved swiftly after the hammer fell, confirming the seven-year-old gelding will head to Warrnambool trainer Simon Ryan with a preparation geared toward the May feature.
Post Impressionist was offered by Anthony Freedman Racing on behalf of owners Nick and Lloyd Williams and James Packer.
“I’ve bought a few horses through Inglis Digital over the years, including some ex-Lloyd ones and had some luck so I was more than happy to go again,’’ Morrissy said.
“$225,000 was about my limit, I must say. I was happy to get him at that price but I also didn’t have too many clicks left in me to keep going.“Post Impressionist has been running in some pretty significant Spring Carnival races of late and he was only beaten 1.9 lengths in a Herbert Power a couple of starts ago so we believe he’s still got plenty left to give.
“We’ll bring him back a notch and target him at the Warrnambool Cup, he’ll go to Simon Ryan to be trained and hopefully we can have plenty of fun with him.’’
The second-top lot of the day was Moonquake, a three-in-one package comprising the mare, a half sister to four-time Group 1 winner Hartnell, offered in foal to Shinzo and with a Maurice colt at foot.
Also featured in the sale was a 12-strong Godolphin draft – nine racehorses and three race fillies – which returned a combined $505,000.
