A Godolphin blueblood colt who holds a Cox Plate entry has made a winning debut at Warwick Farm.

Attica, a son of retired Darley stallion Lonhro out of the top-class Street Cry mare Savatiano, delivered on his pedigree to score a half-length win over 1400m

“It’s his first start in a race and you've got to come here and do it under race pressure as much as he's shown us at home,” trainer Joe Pride said.

While making it to a Cox Plate might be a pipedream for a horse having his first racing campaign, Pride said he was keen to test Attica at a decent level during the spring.

“I'd love to think we can get him into a stakes race and see how he handles that next level of pressure,” Pride said.

“There is plenty to like about him and there's plenty of him. He's a big, strong, strapping boy, and I'm sure his future's very bright.”

Attica is Savatiano’s first foal after she retired from the racetrack with $2.3 million in earnings after an extended career of 41 starts that delivered 12 victories.

She was first across the line in the 2021 Canterbury Stakes but that Group 1 success was erased from her record because of a positive swab.
