Punting identity Gordon Sutherland, known as Gord on Racing Rant, has died suddenly.

Racing Rant’s Marc Lambourne and Glenn Pollett confirmed the news on Monday that Sutherland had passed away on Sunday at a Sydney hospital.

Lambourne confirmed on Racing Rant’s YouTube channel that Sutherland had been suffering from a respiratory infection.

“It’s shocking news for everyone,” Lambourne said. “He was a big part of the Racing Rant family’s life.”

Known for his strong opinions, Sutherland had been a long-time member of Racing Rant, a subscription-based platform which promotes itself as having “fearless, intelligent and provocative commentary on and analysis of thoroughbred horse racing”.

“Gord had an opinion on everything, he was well read … he tried to find theories and arguments in everything,” Pollett said.
