Ray Thomas appointed Racing and Sports international editor

Ray Thomas will join leading data provider Racing and Sports from February following his departure as racing editor of the Daily Telegraph after 31 years in the role.

Thomas has been appointed international racing editor, a newly created position within the Racing and Sports group.

His role will include providing editorial content for Hong Kong-based subsidiary Racing and Sports Asia.

Thomas will contribute to several established Hong Kong racing publications and media assets acquired by Racing and Sports Asia in early 2025, including the Sun Newspaper, Hong Kong Daily News and iRace.

The role also includes contributions across digital platforms with an increasing global reach.

Thomas’s responsibilities will extend to coverage of Hong Kong racing and the promotion of the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s simulcast and World Pool meetings.

He will also remain actively involved in Australian racing coverage, with a focus on connecting local horses and industry stakeholders to international racing markets.

This will include World Pool meetings staged across Australia, Europe and Asia.

“I am excited to take on this newly created role with Racing and Sports as it allows me the flexibility to bring many global racing stories to the largest racing audience in the world in Hong Kong, while continuing to showcase Australian racing,” Thomas said.

Racing and Sports chief executive Stephen Crispe said the appointment supported the company’s strategic expansion in Hong Kong.

“Racing and Sports Asia is delighted to have secured a journalist of Ray’s calibre and wealth of experience to spearhead our editorial coverage for our publishing assets in Hong Kong,” he said.
